What GSM is best for heavyweight streetwear t-shirts?

Choosing GSM for heavyweight tees

Heavyweight streetwear tees are usually chosen somewhere between roughly 220 and 280 gsm, with the heavier end used when structure and opacity matter most. The right figure depends on the handfeel you want and how the piece will be worn, so we agree a target and then compare the actual fabric options available.

Two fabrics with the same gsm can feel quite different depending on the yarn, the knit and the finishing, so the weight alone does not describe the result. That is why we recommend judging a swatch in the hand rather than choosing from a number on a sheet.

Heavier fabric generally costs more and can feel warmer, so a very heavy tee suits a streetwear staple rather than a summer basic. If you need both, the range can be split between a core weight and a lighter seasonal one.

Where printing or embroidery is used, the fabric weight and the knit affect how the decoration sits on the surface, so the two are considered together when the sample is developed.

Tell us the feel you are aiming for and we will confirm the fabric options available for your order.
