How do I compare custom streetwear manufacturers fairly?
Comparing factories on the same basis
Fair comparison starts with an identical brief. Send every factory the same reference, the same quantity per colour and the same target date, because a cheaper quotation usually reflects a different specification rather than a better price.
Ask for the quotation split into sampling, bulk and shipping. A single lump sum hides where the cost comes from, and it makes two quotes impossible to compare. Sampling in particular is charged separately and quoted upfront, and any offer to credit it against bulk production depends on the bulk quantity being large enough.
Compare the answers, not only the numbers. A useful factory answer names the fabric, the wash method, the checkpoints and the person responsible, and it confirms timelines in writing. A price given before the specification exists, or a delivery date given before your production slot is confirmed, tells you the quote is provisional rather than real.
Finally, measure response speed. Most factories reply within one working day when they want the order, and how a team answers during the sales stage is how the same team behaves when a shipment is delayed.
